Your Career Is an RPG: Introducing Trustified Skill Trees

273 skills across 7 career paths, organized into tech trees from Foundation to Expert. Here's how Trustified turns your career into an RPG worth playing.

The Career Progression Problem

Ask any mid-level developer: "What do I need to learn to become a senior engineer?" You'll get a different answer from every person you ask.

Some say system design. Others say leadership. Some point to specific technologies. The truth is, there's no agreed-upon map for developer career progression. You're supposed to just figure it out, absorb knowledge through osmosis, and hope you're building the right skills.

That's a terrible system. Imagine playing an RPG where the skill tree is invisible and nobody will tell you what abilities unlock next.

7 Career Paths, 273 Skills

Trustified maps out developer careers the way RPGs map out character progression. We've built 7 curated career paths, each with skills organized from Foundation tier through Expert:

Software Engineer — from Git basics and code review through distributed systems and architecture patterns.

DevOps Engineer — from Linux fundamentals and CI/CD through Kubernetes orchestration and infrastructure as code.

Data Scientist — from statistics and Python through ML ops and production model deployment.

Cybersecurity Analyst — from network security basics through threat hunting and incident response.

Cloud Architect — from cloud fundamentals through multi-cloud strategy and cost optimization.

AI Engineer — from neural network basics through LLM fine-tuning and production AI systems.

AI-Augmented Developer — from prompt engineering through AI-assisted architecture and automated testing.

That's 273 skills total. Each one specific, observable, and endorsable by teammates who've seen you use it.

How XP Works

Every skill starts at 0 XP. When a qualified teammate endorses you in that skill, you earn 1 XP. The XP system is simple by design:

1-2 XP — You've been validated by peers. You're on the map.

3+ XP — You've achieved the mastery threshold. Now you can endorse others in this skill. You're a recognized expert.

The mastery threshold is what keeps the system honest. You don't get to validate others until the community has validated you first. It's a chain of trust that starts with real work and real observation.

Prerequisites Keep It Real

Just like in an RPG, you can't skip ahead. Each tier has prerequisites from the tier below. You can't claim expertise in Kubernetes without demonstrating knowledge of containerization first. You can't endorse someone in distributed systems if you haven't proven your networking fundamentals.

This prevents the "I watched a YouTube tutorial" problem. Skills unlock naturally as you demonstrate competence at each level.

Your Progress, Visualized

One of the most satisfying parts of any RPG is watching your skill tree light up as you progress. Trustified gives you that same feeling with your actual career.

See exactly where you are across your chosen path. Identify the gaps between where you are and where you want to be. Watch your endorsements accumulate and your expertise become visible.

No more wondering if you're on track. No more guessing what to learn next. Your career path is laid out, your progress is tracked, and your skills are validated by the people who matter most — the ones who've worked alongside you.
